Circuit Board

Society is like a circuit board.

Some communication channels are obvious like wires, while a vast number of others are obscured under the surface.

Solder points are visible, and can represent our news networks. They are apparent to the eye but only pass along the information to.

The components all have roles to play and provide a specific function. They can be large scale communities, industries or economies or one particular job held by a single person.

Break one component, cut one wire or provide too much stress and the system fails; partially or completely. But components are replaceable and can be upgraded.

One element can't be replaced or fixed. The board. That green colored substance that keeps the solder, wires and components together. Without the rigid board, it falls apart. This represents the people. Stress the board too much and it snaps, separating governments and countries.

The circuit board did not exist before the discovery of electricity. Instead, people and supplies moved and shifted around like a fluid. But electricity made us rigid, formed dense and complicated societies and systems. Dependencies grew on the systems, which required more specializations, political structures and businesses. People lost mobility and became the blank green structure as the components have bonded onto them permanently.

Maybe, some day, the electricity will stop flowing and people will remember that it was each other that we depended on, and that the components can be removed. Tall buildings will no longer provide as sufficient dwelling and populations will return to the country side.

Life will pace itself to night and day... winter and summer.

Just saying.
BAM!!!
